A New Haven for Wine Lovers in Alentejo: Quinta do Paral Hotel Opens

For wine-loving travelers with a taste for luxury, Portugal’s Alentejo region has a new gem to explore—Quinta do Paral Hotel. Often dubbed the "Tuscany of Portugal," Alentejo is now home to this exceptional retreat, brought to life by Dieter Morszeck, the aviation enthusiast and grandson of Rimowa founder, Paul Morszeck.
Dieter, who famously sold Rimowa to LVMH for $716 million in 2016, didn’t just retire into obscurity. Instead, he bought 138 acres of vineyards, some over 50 years old, and partnered with a local winemaker to craft wines that embody the spirit of Alentejo. He didn’t stop there—Dieter also ventured into producing olive oil, packaged in bottles reminiscent of Chanel No. 5, and launched Junkers Aircraft, a company creating light aircraft from aluminum, inspired by Rimowa’s iconic design.
The Quinta do Paral Hotel boasts 22 rooms encircling a grand main house, perfect for hosting large gatherings. Guests are treated to tranquility, breathtaking views, exquisite cuisine, and, of course, an abundance of fine wine. Arriving in style is part of the experience—a ten-seater plane with golden monograms, stationed at Lisbon Airport, whisks guests away to the hotel. For those with a taste for adventure, the same plane can fly you to Morocco or Spain for a day trip. And while everyone indulges in the finest wines, there’s one person who might abstain—the pilot. Or so they say.
